Why Anne Kiguta Left K24

Anne Kiguta will no longer be hosting her Sunday evening program Punchline on K24 TV. She announced this on Sunday 6th December, 2020 on social media.

The shocking post came just hours before Kenyans expected to see Anne Kiguta on her highly rated News program on K24.

In the post, she began by thanking her viewers for welcoming her into their homes as journalist and anchorwoman. She then reminded Kenyans that she has been hosting K24 Punchline for two years, a role she would not return to.

Anne Kiguta Disagreements with K24

She stated that there had been fundamental disagreement on the editorial processes and direction the show was being forced to take. Anne Kiguta referenced the Code of Conduct contained in the Media Council of Kenya Act that guides all journalist practicising in Kenya, as the guide that led to her resignation.

She finished by saying how proud she was of what herself and the K24 crew had achieved.

The surprising thing with this announcement was when she referred to herself as an independent contractor to the Media House, where many thought she was a full time employee.

Earlier this year Kiguta made headlines when she disagreed with the station’s management, after it cancelled an interview she has scheduled with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
