Cs Magoha Announces Schools Reopening, KCPE & KCSE
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has announced the reopening of schools for Grade 4, Class 8 and Form 4 students. This will happen on Monday 12th October, 2020.
In a letter sent to the press, CS Magoha stated that pursuant to the Presidential Directive issued during the Twelfth Presidential Address on the Nation on the Coronavirus Pandemic on Monday 28th September, 2020, and following the broad based education stakeholder consultations; the Ministry of Education notifies the public that the progressive re-opening of schools will commence with Grade 4 (competence Based Curriculum Class), Class 8 and Form 4 on Monday 12th October, 2020.
CS Magoha noted that for these students, the term will close on 23rd December 2020 i.e. it will take a duration of 11 weeks. The holiday will commence on 24th December 2020 and end on 1st January 2021 i.e. a duration of 1 week. Term 3 will commence on 4th January 2021 and end on 19th March 2021 i.e. 11 weeks.
CS Magoha Announcement on KCPE and KCSE
In regards to final year exams, CS Magoha stated that KCPE for class 8 will be done from 22 March 2021 to 24th March 2021. KCSE for Form 4s will commence on 25th March 2021 and end on 16th April 2021. KCSE will be marked from 19th April 2021 to 7th May 2021.
Schools Reopening Guidelines
The following are the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols outlined by Education CS George Magoha:
There will be mandatory use of facemasks, monitoring of body temperature for all learners, staff and persons accessing the schools, hand washing and observance of high levels of hygiene.
All schools that had been used as quarantine centers have to be fumigated under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in readiness for re-opening.
All schools have been linked to the nearest public health facility prior to being re-opened.
All teachers encouraged to provide psychosocial and spiritual support to learners and school support staff.
CS Magoha ended by noting that the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, will continuously monitor adherence to ‘Guideliens on Health and Safety Protocols for Reopening of Basic Education Institutions amid COVID-19 Pandemi’
